Parental Resources and Support Available through the EAP
The start of a new school year often marks the onset of additional responsibilities outside of the workplace. To support your work-life balance, BB&T provides Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services to all regular (not temporary or contract) associates and their dependents. The EAP services are completely confidential and free. A third-party vendor, Managed Health Network (MHN), administers the EAP services and BB&T pays for them.
Searching for after-school care
As the school year begins, you may need to make after-school arrangements for your child. The EAP website features articles and tools to help you find the best childcare option to meet your needs. You can also call the EAP at 800-925-4525 and a consultant will help you find a local childcare provider. The consultant can also help you understand the differences in cost and structure of the types of childcare available for infants, preschoolers and school-aged children.
Handling challenges associated with raising children
The EAP website houses numerous articles on handling challenges involved with raising children. Topics include motivating your kids to work, helping your child prepare for the next big grade-level jump, bullying, raising children as a single parent, raising teens and much more.
Finding healthy food for kids
If you need some inspiration to mix it up with nutritious meals, or if you want tips on finding healthy food that kids will eat, you will find convenient articles on the website such as "Healthy Snacks for Kids: Ten Child Friendly Tips" and "Children's Nutrition: Ten Tips for Picky Eaters."
To access these free online resources (articles and childcare provider search tool):
- Visit the MHN website(opens in a new tab) (select Log In and then enter the company code: bbt).

- Select Parenting from the dropdown list.
Coping with change at the start of and throughout the school year
From new schools to family situations, you or your dependents may need extra help coping with change when school starts. The EAP offers licensed professional counseling for a wide range of emotional health issues, such as stress, anxiety, marriage, family, relationship issues, depression, grief and loss, anger management, alcohol and drug dependency, and life changes.
There are several options for speaking with a counselor. As a regular associate, you and your dependents are each entitled to up to three free face-to-face counseling sessions, unlimited free telephone consultations and unlimited free web-video consultations. At any time (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), call MHN's Clinical Counseling Services at 800-925-4525 to receive immediate over-the-phone counseling from a certified professional or to set up a web-video consultation. If you prefer face-to-face counseling or specialized support, MHN will find you a local counselor in their nationwide network when you call.
While the EAP can help during back-to-school time, keep in mind the EAP services can support you and your family at any point during the year. Legal services and e-Learning programs are also available through the EAP.
