Holidays and Vacation
In general, BB&T observes the Federal Reserve holiday schedule (some subsidiaries and affiliates observe a different holiday schedule). For 2019, BB&T observes the following:

Please verify holiday schedules with your manager before making extensive personal plans. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, BB&T grants a floating day to be taken in the same calendar year in which the holiday falls and at a time approved by the associate's manager. An associate hired after the day for which the floating holiday is granted is not eligible for that floating holiday in the current year. When New Year's Day falls on a Sunday, the Federal Reserve recognizes the holiday on the following Monday, January 2.
Christmas Day and Christmas Eve
When Christmas Eve falls on a weekday, our banking offices will close at 2 pm. Department/division/subsidiary managers should determine at what time their respective areas will close, keeping in mind that our branches need to be supported through 2 pm.
When Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday, we will operate with regular hours on the preceding Friday and the following Monday will represent the Christmas holiday.
When Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday, we will operate with regular hours for any offices scheduled for Saturday operations.
Holidays for subsidiaries
Certain subsidiaries of BB&T follow different holiday schedules. If you are unsure of your holiday schedule, please consult your manager or contact the Human Systems Service Center at 800-716-2455, option 3.
BB&T provides a competitive program of paid time away from the job to allow you the necessary time for mental, physical and emotional relaxation. The number of vacation days you may take is based on your years of service and increases with tenure and/or promotion entitlement.

There are specific criteria for vacation for certain associate events, including Leaves of Absence, National Guard or Reserve Annual Training, and retirement or termination of employment. Learn more about vacation for certain associate events.
Scheduling your vacation
You must submit vacation plans to your manager prior to April 1 or if a winter vacation is planned, as soon as possible after January 1. In the event of conflicting vacation plans within a department, the manager shall establish priority within each job classification, giving consideration to each associate's responsibilities and length of service.
You are generally encouraged to take your full vacation each year unless unusual circumstances prevent it. A perpetual carryover situation should be avoided, as this is not the intent of the policy. With prior approval of your manager, you may be able to carry over up to one week's vacation to the following year. A carryover decision should be based on the company's best interest, and would typically represent an event-based decision having to do with:
- Merger activity
- A major corporate project
- Other significant events (with manager's approval)
