BB&T Scholarship Program
As BB&T associates, learning opportunities are all around us. From BB&T University to The BB&T Leadership Institute, BB&T supports the educational advancement of associates so we can achieve our personal and professional goals. But BB&T’s commitment to education doesn’t stop there. Did you know that BB&T also supports the education of children of BB&T associates through the BB&T Scholarship program?
Since 2004, BB&T has awarded 10 scholarships per year to exceptionally able students whose parent(s) work for BB&T. Starting with the graduating class of 2016, BB&T will begin awarding 20 scholarships annually to remarkable students. If you have a child in their junior year of high school, they may be eligible to apply for the BB&T Scholarship, a stipend of $1,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate college study or until bachelor's degree requirements are completed, whichever occurs first.
Scholarship applicant criteria
To be considered for the BB&T Scholarship, students must meet specific criteria, including:
- Be a child of a full-time associate with at least one complete year of service (service earned prior to joining BB&T through an acquisition is not counted)
- Take the qualifying test, the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) during their junior year of high school
- Complete the BB&T Scholarship Program Entry Form(opens in a new tab) during their junior year and submit it by the February deadline

Advancement in the competition
Qualifying students are initially screened based on their scores from the PSAT/NMSQT and will be contacted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) on or before December of their senior year. Students who advance past the initial screen will complete applications, including biographical and academic information to be filed with NMSC.
Scholarship Winner Selection
Scholarship winners will be chosen on a competitive basis and without regard to family financial circumstances, gender, race, ethnic origin or religious preference. If your child is selected, their annual stipend will not be affected by other scholarship aid or by an approved change in college.
All winners will be notified directly, prior to any public announcement made about BB&T Scholarship recipients.
