Taking Time Off for Involvement in Your Children's Education
Education is the most critical ingredient to ensure a bright future for our children. It is BB&T's policy to support our educational system by encouraging associates to volunteer to establish partnerships with students, teachers and parents.
As a parent of a child in school, your involvement in education can:
- Have a more positive influence in the lives of children
- Help children receive quality education and give them the opportunity to become productive citizens for our communities, states and nation
- Make the communities in which we live better places to reside, work and play
As an eligible associate, BB&T provides you up to 8 hours per year* of paid time off for involvement in your child's education. Eligible associates include all regular (not temporary or contract) associates scheduled to work at least 20 hours per week. This time off benefit—referred to as Education Involvement for Dependent—is separate from absences allowed under the short-term absence and vacation policies. You may use it for school-related activities for your child under the age of 26. Some examples include:
- Participation in parent-teacher conferences
- Participation in parent-teacher associations
- Chaperoning field trips
- Volunteering in the classroom
- Supporting various school programs, public or private
Prior to committing or scheduling your involvement at your child's school, check with your manager to ensure the date and time works with your department's schedule. Your manager must approve your time off. You will enter this time in Workday as Education Involvement for Dependent.

*Please Note: 8 hours per year (unless a greater provision is required by the associate's work state or district) for each associate is an assumed appropriate level of involvement with pay.
